Dispite all the reports of Liverpool having missed the deadline for securing Gareth Barry’s services from Aston Villa, the proposed transfer could still go ahead.
The fact of the matter is that we’re still keen to sign Barry and Barry is still keen on joining Liverpool football club. One thing Gareth Barry could still do is submit a formal transfer request to Villa. This would of course mean that he misses out on a loyaty bonus payout from Villa but if you ask me so what!?
Why does Barry really need another wedge of cash on top of the £30 - £70,000 a week he’s already earning? OK, it would be nice and if anyone offers you essentially ‘free’ cash you be stupid not to take it. But when you’re earning the kind of money a Premiership footballer earns, why sacrifice your happiness and playing for a team you know is going somewhere and will win silverware, for a few extra quid? I just don’t get it…
To be honest if Villa fans start to turn against Barry, if he’s still With Villa at the start of the new season then I can’t blame them. Barry should have put in a transfer request the first time his proposed move to join us fell through. I don’t pretend to know the ins and outs of player transfers, but it just seems that footballers and their agents make lives complicated for each other, and more often than not it’s because someone is trying to make a few extra thousand somewhere along the line.
Everyone involved in Premiership football is making more than enough money to survive and perhaps these players and their agents should try working the 9 to 5, 40 hour week like the fans - see how they like it then!
