Tuesday’s fantastic performance against Marseille sets us up nicely for a commanding position in Group D.

Of course it was the Stevie Gerrard show but he was outstanding yet again and for once in a while got a couple of goals as his reward. So many games you see him battling away and keeping the team moving with no reward - I thought it was fair that Gerrard scored a few, especially as we came out with an away win in europe.

Of course it wasn’t just a one man show, Gerrard go the goals but Reina was in top form saving twice in the last 10 minutes. A great all round team performance - perhaps that’s why we’re second in the league at the moment?! Early days I know but still very, very nice to come out on top of United and get an away European win - all in the same week!!

Albert Riera had told BBC Radio Merseyside that he was only interested in moving to Liverpool;

He said; “When Espanyol said I had some offers I said ‘only listen to the offer from Liverpool.” “Why? Because it is a very big team and I like the supporters and stadium.”

“The boss, I know him when I was training in Spain and I know he’s a coach that brings the maximum from the player, so he’s very important for the players.”

“I preferred to be here from the first day but it was a really difficult fight with Espanyol because Espanyol asked for a lot of money for me.

“They had more important offers than Liverpool one for me so it was a fight, but they knew my clear idea was only to come here.

“They respected my decision and on the last day they accepted the offer.”

It looks like Rafa has made his 6th signing of the summer in Vitor Flora, the 18 year old Brazilian player.

Benitez has reportedly also completed the signing of Albert Riera, the 26 year old left winger from Espanyol, the fee is reported to be in the region of £9 million.

Commenting on the Riera deal earlier today Benitez said: “The deal for Riera is nearly done. Maybe it is not done yet because it was the weekend, but I have confidence that it will.” But since then I’ve seen comments on various web sites and comments saying that Reira is now officially a Liverpool player.
