This is really an update on a recent post about Gareth Barry’s potential move from Villa…
Speaking to the News of the World Gareth Barry has had a bit of a dig at Villa Boss Martin O’Neill, he said: “My mind’s made up, I want to join Liverpool.
“There’s no going back, it’s time for me to move on. I’m desperate to play Champions League football and that’s why I have to leave Villa.”
There has been few harsh words from Martin O’Neill about how Benitez approached and continues pursuing Gareth Barry; but Barry said; “Villa kept saying they wanted me to stay but I have not heard from the manager for weeks.”
“It’s seven weeks now since the season finished but while the gaffer’s found time to be a pundit for the BBC at Euro 2008, he hasn’t found the time to speak to me.
“Have Villa offered me anything to try to persuade me my future is at Villa Park, not Anfield? Not a thing.”
I think that Barry’s made it quite clear, so hopefuly it will only be a matter of weeks before we see him grace the Anfield turf!

I’m very pleased to officially announce that work has started on the new Liverpool Football Club stadium, even though it’s just the initial process.

Full panning permission has been granted for the £350 million stadium. Co-owner Tom Hicks said: “I’m pleased the club have received full planning permission and it can commence with enabling works.”
“We recognise the importance of a new LFC stadium as part of the wider regeneration of the local area.”
“We have issued a licence to cover the next couple of months to allow the club to get onto Stanley Park and to prepare the ground by adding things like porter cabins.
“It is my understanding that no major work will happen before the lease is signed.”
George Gillett added: “I am delighted that the design got full planning consent and that we are on site.
“This is first tangible evidence for fans that a new stadium will be built.”
It’s just a pitty they can’t stop arguing off the field - is this the first time they’ve actually agreed on something!?

Steven Gerrard says he would love Gareth Barry to join Liverpool, he said: “I want Gareth Barry to become a Liverpool player. I am desperate for us to sign him.”
“He’s a good player. I want Liverpool to be as strong as possible and Gareth Barry will certainly make us stronger.”
“Gareth Barry is someone who will improve Liverpool. We can’t be disrespectful to Villa. He is still their player and we will see what happens,” said Gerrard.
“Naturally, they are going to try and keep hold of him, and rightly so because he is one of their star men. He has been a fantastic servant for them over many years.”
“I know all about Gareth, I am good friends with him off the pitch and I am desperate for us to sign him.”
“You talk about improving the team, the starting XI and the squad, and Gareth will certainly help Liverpool to become a better team.”
“It is easy to play with good players. I’ve been asked a lot of questions this season about Fernando Torres and the simple answer is ‘it’s easier playing with quality players’ - and Gareth comes into that category.”
