Benitez says Carson’s price is a matter for the clubs

Thursday, 22. May 2008 admin

Rafael Benitez says that the matter of Scott Carson’s price tag is one for the 2 clubs (Aston Villa and Liverpool) to decide.

When speaking to the Liverpool Echo Benitez said; “It is a matter between the clubs.”

“We agreed the fee with Aston Villa last year. The fee has been there for one season so to talk about the fee now is not correct.”

“We agreed with Martin O’Neill and that was the situation.”

Carson has responded by saying “It’s too much. It’s stupid money really.”

“It may be time to move but I don’t know if anyone will agree a fee.”

“I don’t think Liverpool are stupid. They know what I’m worth.”

“They would’ve recouped what they paid for me in loan fees over the last couple of years, so hopefully they can help me out.”

“Liverpool have a great keeper in Pepe Reina and he’s going to take a lot of shifting, but I’ve played football for the last two seasons and I don’t think I’ll be content sitting on the bench.”

I think both the managers and Carson have a point really. On the one hand £10 million is a bit of a ridiculous price tag for a goalkeeper but it’s also true that Carson should just let the club managers sort out the fee side of things; after all if he’s on loan and he presumably agreed the terms in the first place, then that’s it.

Degen in defence

Tuesday, 20. May 2008 admin

We’ve bought swiss international Philipp Degen who played for Borussia Dortmund last season, he’s 25 years old and is a right sided full-back. He was out of contract so a deal was negotiated…

Benitez believes Degen’s champions league and international experience will be vital when playing for Liverpool…

Bid for Torres rejected

Tuesday, 13. May 2008 admin

It has been reported in spain via a Radio Marca report that Chelsea or rather, Roman Abramovich made a £40 million, 50 million euro, bid for Fernando Torres.

This wouldn’t suprise me in the slightest as Torres has performed beyond everyone’s expectations in his first Premier League season.

Of course we rejected the offer as it’s clearly not in the best interests of the club to sell Torres and there is certainly no intention to sell him after such a fantastic start to his career in the Premiership.

Chelsea, allegedly, used some underhand tatics to get the ‘message’ through to Torres - Avram Grant tried to make use of his friendship with Benayoun….I wonder where this story came from!??

Crouch up for talks with Benitez

Wednesday, 07. May 2008 admin

Peter Crouch has said he would rather leave Liverpool than spend next season on the bench.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, Peter Crouch has been used as a regular substitute this season but he has only scored five Premier League goals.

Now he plans to meet with Rafa Benitez to find out if he has a future with us.

Crouch said: “When all is said and done, I don’t think I can have another season like this year where I’ve started nine Premier League games. Out of a 38-game league season, nine games is not the amount you want to be playing.

“I’ll have to speak to the manager and see what his plans are. I need to see him and sort things out. I have to find out what he wants from me next season and whether or not I can continue with that. In some ways, I want to feel wanted.

“So I’d like to speak to the manager and the club before I commit to anything and know whether or not I’ll be here next year.”

Benitez is report to have said that Crouch was offered a contract extension earlier this season, but Crouch insists they only had a “five-minute chat”.

Crouch has denied having any contact with Portsmouth but does not think he will have much trouble finding another club if he decides to leave Anfield.

He said: “It’s always nice to know that if things did go completely wrong for me at Liverpool, I’d have options to go somewhere else and it’s not the end of the world if things don’t work out for me there.”
